The detachable screen fits easily into your hands and is very lightweight. The T100TA is essentially a unique combination of a tablet and a very portable laptop. It’s actually two computers in one. The touchscreen display unit detaches from the keyboard when you need it to, and it transforms into a powerful tablet with full Windows 8.1 applications.

This notebook measures about 10.4″ and weights at 2.4 lbs. The tablet itself weights 1.2 lbs. It’s a very small, lightweight device, and you can easily take it with you wherever you go. It’s very portable. The Asus Transformer Book T100TA-Ci-GR is 64 gigs and is very versatile in use, as it can operate as a tablet or a notebook. It’s lightweight features allow it to be used for small routine jobs when out and about. As a tablet, its powerful, because it handles Window 8 applications. The touch screen operates very well, and the long battery life makes it very appealing.

Display/Touchscreen Function & Speakers

This tablet has a great IPS display touchscreen! The resolution is 1366 x 768 on a 10.1″ panel. It also offers a 178 degree viewing angles, which allows for excellent viewing. This makes it easier to read, although there are better ones on the market. This display is midrange, sharp enough, has great contrast, but is lacking in brightness levels. Although this tablet’s display is sharper with wider viewing angles than laptops in price ranges of $500 and $700, and that’s really exceptional. The speaker quality is good.

Ports and Features

The T100TA comes with a 3.5mm combo audio jack, a micro USB charging port, a micro HDMI port, and a micro SDXC card slot and these ports are located on the side of the table. There’s a volume control on the left side and the power button is on top. There’s a 1.2MP webcam above the screen, and the capacitive Windows button is on the bottom. The keyboard dock has a full-size USB 3.0 port with a connector that inserts into the tablet. The T100TA locks securely into the dock, and there’s an easy release button that releases the tablet from the dock. This is a full Windows tablet, and so you can use your USB port with any Windows compatible peripherals, to include printers, hard drives, and 3G/4G LTE USB modems.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The T100TA’s keyboard is wonderful, such as its key travel is generous for a tiny and slim product, and the keys are big. The units keyboard dock is designed to be comfortable in long-term use, and has a multi-touch pad. Although the keyboard is better than other small tablets with its 10.1″ size, its best for the occasional typists perhaps, as the keyboard isn’t large enough to support writing long papers, articles, or long detailed emails.

Performance

Let’s say bravo for the T100TA Atom CPU! When new batches of Atom dual core tablets came out last year, we’ve been anxiously waiting for the faster quad core Bay Trail Z3740. The T100TA’s CPU is about twice as fast as others in the same category, and has improved graphic performance. It’s Intel HD graphics is light-years ahead of the Clover Trails. This table is responsive, but may have some issues in lags. If you are a user of Adobe Photoshop, Visual Studio, and Civ V, then you will love this tablet. All the programs run smoothly enough for a small tablet. Multitasking is limited as there is only two gigs of non-gradable DDR 3 RAM. Happily Adobe Photoshop CS is very usable, but heavy duty software, such as Adobe Premiere and Visual Studio can be a bit sluggish. Games run smoothly. Also the T100 uses eMMC storage and not the faster SATA SSD drives.

Battery Life

This little T100TA comes with a compact two watt mobile OS tablet style charger, which won’t take up a lot of space in your bag. The USB cable is only 3 ft. long; however, you won’t be plugging it in as much, because it has a long battery life. It does take a long time to charge, and so it’s best to charge it overnight. You have eleven full hours of use before having to recharge.

Heat and Noise

This little tablet has a passively cooled CPU – this means no fans! With low power, low heat, and little noise, the CPU’s back never gets hot – only warm. It comes with a two cell, Lithium Ion battery, and its sealed inside. Even with the WiFi on, you will have about 11 hours of use before having to recharge. Also the tablet can lie idly for days with minimal power drain.

Pros

• Free copy of MS Office 2013 Home and Student Edition software
• IPS Display
• Long Battery Life
• You can install Adobe Photoshop and other heavy duty software packages.
• Small, lightweight, Convertible Laptop/Tablet
• Intel Atom Z3740 1.86 Ghz Processor

Cons

• The T100TA is an impressive laptop, but it’s only a natural evolution of the netbook
• It has less speed than what you’d get with an Intel Core CPU
• Tiny keyboard
• Underpowered for serious gaming

This Is For Who?

The Asus Transformer Book T100TA is ideal for those who want to use the new Metro apps, get a lot of work done by using the installed MS Office 2013 Home and Student package, surf the internet, do emails, and watch videos. It’s also great for those graphic designers on the go, because they can download Adobe Photoshop, Visual Studio and other software programs, and get their work done wherever they are. It’s also for the student looking for a great inexpensive tablet to write their reports and research papers. It’s very durable and functional, and extremely ideal for students, professionals, and others looking for a bargain and that packs a lot of power and has some really nice features.

Why Should You Buy It?

You should buy this little tablet, because the pricing is great, and you won’t find a keyboard dock with other tablets at these prices. You also get a lot of storage space in the 64 gig, and the display screen is wonderful. You can spend about 11 hours on the tablet before having to recharge. You can download lots of heavy duty software, such as Adobe Photoshop and others, offering a full range in how you can use your tablet. It already comes preinstalled with the MS Office 2013 Home and Student software, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote, so that you can get right to work, and it saves a bundle from having to purchase it yourself.
